This weekend, I was honoured to have a song sung to me by a young man from the Haida nation, in the long house at Tsawwassen. The song was a new song written by Vernon Williams - a traditional "greeting for a new day", and was sung to me in the Haida language by this young man, who beat out the rhythm on a traditional drum.
The young man's name is Bryce and will be returning soon to the Queen Charlotte Islands, to Haida Gwaii, where he will continue his work in traditional wood carving techniques.
I will not forget him - and my thoughts will be with him in his chosen path of cultural preservation.
